I personally see my paper money as three key area's and have a different stratergy for each. These distinctions are British notes, American notes and world notes.

British notes- my aim was each type of note with each denomination and each signature.

American notes - each type of note by colour of seal and denomination, key types such as fractionals and early types.

World notes - sets from places I have visited, expanded retroactively.

I tend to prioritise British notes but am pretty much done there... USA I like but find hard to source living in Britain and many of my wants are beyond budget and world notes are low priority.

It can be hard to choose what to buy and what grade to go for... I'd be interested to hear what you are working on, how you prioritise and what your goals are.

I have a few main focuses when it comes to paper money - German, Russian and notgeld.

I have a healthy interest in world paper money aswell and do buy odd notes that take my fancy. Often with a view to expand these into focus of their own as time and money becomes available.

I'd really love to build up a collection of French notes and those with a French influence - French colonies and overseas territories. This in itself would be a huge collection and very pleasing to put together.

Germany - I'm aiming for one of each type pre 1948; one of each major pick number without worrying too much about small varieties.

Russia - similar focus to the German notes. One of each major pick number, again not going out of my way to acquire small varieties. Although I do have a few signature varieties these came from job lots and I've kept these for interest but wouldn't go out of my way to acquire them. I'm also covering the specialized issues i.e. south Russia, Siberia, Transcaucasia ect.

Notgeld - this is where my love of paper money started. There is so many different types out there this is unlikely to ever be completed so this is by far the most relaxed collection. Buy any individual notes or sets available avoiding duplication in as higher grade as possible - the majority I have are uncirculated. Only buy sets that are attractive to me. Theres enough out there to allow me to be picky.

Cool and I agree French notes are interesting. I have a set from the 1990's and have thought about getting some of the older ones.

You have much different focus to me ^^
