I have a gold medal (see pic) which I got from my mom's estate, and I have not been able to find any information on it. I would like to know if it's collectible or if it's just "scrap gold" value. The front has an eagle, and the top line on it says "United States of America", the next line "Bicentennial" and "1776" on the left side.
The back has 13 bicentennial stars in a circle forming a wreath, with the inscription "The Bicentennial Council of the Thirteen Original States" It's marked .500 fine gold on the edge.
If anyone could help clarify this mystery and point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it.
Thank you!

I've found this item at APMEX, which indicates that it is 42 grains (.0424 ozt), so less than 1/20 ounce, or about $60 in gold spot value. This site also mentions that it is a product of the Franklin Mint, so it may have some collectable value, but because yours is not in the original packaging, it may not carry a significant premium.

Here's one that sold on ebay a few months ago for $80, with its packaging and certificate of authenticity.

I just tried to post a Thank You reply, but I think I messed something up. Please excuse me if it gets repeated.
Anyway, Thank you very much Alpha2814. Your information really helped!
