Looks strange - what happened to to the S?

This one also has the levitating/floating roof -
ABE & FG are practically invisible so I know there was a lot of polishing going on there.

I recall reading that some s mintmarks on older coins were punched upside down. Could that happen on a 69 LMC? Was there an up/ down on MMs of this lineage?

You are right - it looks upside down. I'll do some research on it Thanks Bump.

Edit:
I did some research and Well, not any varieties on it so most likely just wear. Considering it's age if there were others there we would have known about it by now.

Pretty cool looking though.

It isn't an RPM, placement is wrong for all listings. odd lower shape could be a polishing away of Grease Fill. Don't know about upper curve tho, why so thick? See absolutely no indication of DD or MD, Just a beat up coin. Can't explain thick upper, just smashed...?

BTW, not upside down...if it were would have a point upwards or at least indication of.

Yeah Joe the Floating Roof is a fun find usually on the 1969-D & 1970-D LMC's (but now I have found 2 1969S with this same over polishing).

The cause is from over polishing the dies to the point where it removes some of the details on the design, which in this case are the roof supports.

Just in case, I took VV's mintmark style for that year, inverted it and compared it with your coin:

Just found this other 1969-S this morning - looks normal.
So do they polish the MM's as well?
