I'm thinking this is a VAM-8 because of the broken tip on #4 star. The die chip is missing on the forehead so could this be a different VAM number? Checking these VAM's can drive a person nuts.

It looks like you have a broken 4th star and a broken "r" in trust. The broken r looks like a "full triangle shaped serif" so you would use the top guide in the attached link. From there it further narrows down by the letter "B" in pluribus being broken or not. http://www.vamworld.com/4th+Ri...043;Location Hope this helps..

Dave you spotted some items I never looked for. Thanks for the link, which sent me in many directions. After eliminating many I think I now have this one at VAM-23. The mint mark does not look doubled but the other markers are there like the die flakes in the hair, double B, and the triangle R that you spotted and the others already mentioned.

IndianGoldEagle,
On the VamWorld pages, hyperlinks are your friend. When you go to the 1878-S page, there`s a hyperlink at the start of the B2 reverse listings. That link is a sort by the 'R' in TRUST and broken 4th star. The nice folks there have done all the hardwork for you. Most of the pages offer some type of sort help.

Yup. Looks like 23. VAMming only drives you nuts until you know how the process works. Then it quickly becomes down right addictive
Rest in Peace

VAM-23 is where I ended up tentatively based on your 1st set of images. Your follow up images confirmed it.
