I bought this 1882 nickel the other day for $13. When I got home and examined closer I noticed their was a crack on the obverse stretching from the R in "In God We Trust" down to the end of the leaves on the right side. Besides the spotting and discoloration on the coin, it looks to me to be at least XF45 due to the full shield lines and the detail of the stars on the reverse. If the crack is not PMD does it add any value to the coin? I appreciate everyone's advice!
Edit: I looked online; I haven't been able to find any info about lamination errors for Shield nickels. If anyone could that would be great!

I am not an expert when it comes to mint errors, but it looks like a lamination error.
Rest in Peace

Buckwill, Shield nickels are very subject to die cracks because of their hardness to stamp, the dies broke way too soon. The cracks do not add nor take away any value, at times they are markers for varieties, DDO / DDRs and over-dates(OVDs). It may be pushing it as XF40 Details Environmental Damage. The shield is fairly clear BUT it has spent some time in the dirt...porousness.

Check this out for starters:http://www.shieldnickels.net/

Thought you might have had something , but no just a standard 1882, has damage on right of 2 NOT OVD

Thanks Crazyb0 that's very helpful. The website you left the link for I found earlier and used it to determine that it wasn't the overdate. Just to claify it's definitely a die crack and not a lamination error right?
Rest in Peace

Extensive die crack for that Shield nickel. I personally like them as they add character to the coin imo. However, this coin has environmental damage and its value will be limited as a result.

Yes those are extensive die cracks, which is not unusual for this series. Sharpness is at least XF possibly AU, but the coin is dark and moderately porous from corrosion I would net grade it somewhere around a VG-10 to F-12.
