$16! Wow. I bought a PCGS graded AU58 example for $110 less than a year ago. Commemorative market is really in freefall.

Very cool! Was this a quick purchase, or were you patient waiting for a pick?

eBay.
I messaged with the seller prior to bidding and they satisfactorily answered my questions to raise my confidence the coin was authentic. The auction ended in the middle of the night, so most bidders were sleeping, thus the low price.

Berto, thought so, had my eye on that one after I got a couple others, wound up winning a Pilgrim I had forgot I had bid on otherwise we'd been banging bids!

boy oh boy..i am absolutely no expert on these..or any U.S. issue for that matter! but this coin screamed fake to me..so I opened up PCGS coinfacts and it definitely looks like a counterfeit to me. the color looks off, the streaky reverse scares me, the thick crude letters caught me right away, and the lack of sharpness isn't major but enough tor raise flags IMO. not to mention the ship has almost none of the minute intricate details seen on genuine coins I looked at on PCGS. but the nail in the coffin in my opinion is look behind the last sail..the ropes are almost non-existent...they are crisp and well defined in the coinfacts examples..
and you only got it for $16...even if the auction ended in the middle of the night, any interested bidders would notice that and would've placed their bids beforehand..looks like it went so low because most people were weary of the authenticity.
Feel free to call me Will.

Agree, fake. The "W" in Walloon is just dead wrong, along with the missing ropes and many other issues.

At first I thought it looked a little off, but I thought it might have just been the photo. I admit that I am not an expert in classic US commemorative coins. I do look forward to commentary from commems and nickelsearcher.

I'm with the others, that it's counterfeit. For me, it's the flag and mount on the far left of the reverse. In the genuine copy at PCGS CoinFacts, the flagpole disappears into a mound above the crossed beams. In this one, the pole seems to go all the way to the surface of the boat. The crossed beams are clearly defined, while they are much less so in the PCGS images -- at least, in the area where the flagpole would meet the boat, there is no vertical line that is so present in this piece.
And there are no visible rope at all here, supporting the left mast to the deck. Could be wear, but it just casts extra doubt.

If I submit it for grading I'll find out for certain whether or not the coin is authentic, but I'm in no hurry. $16 is nothing in the scheme of life, so if the coin is fake, then I'm only out the equivalent of one up-scale lunch.

Potential value does not justify the grading and shipping expenses. Nevertheless, for $16 a very good buy! Congratulations. I would be perfectly happy if a similar opportunity came my way.
