I won 4 auctions for Lincoln Wheaties from the same seller on the bay tonite. His advertised shipping discount was at $2.50 for shipping/handling/insurance on additional items purchased within 3 days.

I received a combined invoice at $3.25/ea for additional items making the S/H/I charge $16.50 for 4 slabbed Lincolns valued at under $250. I sent him an e-mail noting the difference about 3 hours ago and haven't heard back.

It's only a $2.25 difference but since his charges are high to begin with, I want the discount. This has happened to me before when the S/H/I was more reasonable and I paid the buck or two difference.

By the way, last month I won 2 auctions totaling $150 from a different seller and they stuck a mandatory $10 insurance charge on the order that was not mentioned in the auction. I wasn't happy but paid it instead of fighting it.

Does this happen often? It seems like every month I get stung and am tired of it. Any thoughts?

Most of the sellers that I have dealt with will lower the combined shipping if you ask nicely. Some, however, won't budge because they listed it in their auction description.

It should only cost him about $7-$8 insured to mail that package Priority. Give him at least 24 hours to respond. You don't have to pay immediately.

Got a link to the auction in question?

Several times! I always got it changed with no problem unless it was close to the time limit they established. I also buy gemstones from foreign sellers and they have sometimes left the box open for as long as 30 days if I am an established customer. But as you note, some sellers use the Postage "pad" to increase their profits. I try to avoid those if possible.

I've also had a seller that I have bough from numerous times. He'll leave a month window open for me to bid on whatever I want. Normally get 10-30 different auctions from him at once. He combines shipping to the Exact cost.

He didn't do real well on his auctions last night and is probably a bit unhappy.
