So, the PCGS "Photograde" app has helped me in learning but, there is at least one major drawback.

There is only one category for Lincoln cents and all of the photos are of Wheat cents. How am I supposed to be able to use that to grade a decades old Memorial cent?

Both sides have to be taken into account and the different reverse designs have their own unique wear patterns as well as known weak-strike areas and die-polishing effects.

I know PCGS has enough images of LMCs to create a separate category. It seems like an oversight to only have LWCs representing Lincoln cents in Photograde.

What do you think?

The same is true for the ANA Grading Standards book, at least in my 6th Edition. It says to grade LMCs based on the obverse and general wear patterns, although black and white pictures are shown down through VF I believe. Same thing goes for other series that having changing designs, like quarters and dollars. It is annoying, but PCGS Photograde has less of an excuse because they definitely have images of LMCs in various grades.

I've found numerous errors (i think) with the photograde app. Maybe we can dedicate this thread to pointing out mistakes, and then one of us send a big email listing them?

Although having each type of coin seems to make sense, it is necessary to decide when those divisions separate varieties rather than types.

Obviously the LMC is a different type from a LWC and I agree they should both have a separate listings in photograde. But I think it's important to separate what is a type, rather than a different variety. For example, I wouldn't see the need for each arrows/no arrows change for Seated Liberty quarters to have individual listings.
