I am looking to fill in my CAPS Presidential dollar collection with the Reverse Proofs, and recently saw this listing on ebay which lists several Presedential Dollar Reverse Proofs as part of a bigger set:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/2007-S-Pres....m1438.l2649

But this listing states the reverse proofs are for "Washington", Adams, Jefferson, and Madison".

I had thought the only reverse proofs were the ones from 2015 (Truman, Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson) and 2016 (Nixon, Ford, Reagan).

Were the other Reverse Proofs made earlier, or is this listing just wrong somehow?

I know that there were regular proofs made for all the Presidential dollars, but thought the Presidential dollar reverse proofs were just from the "Chronicles" sets from 2015 and 2016.

Unfortunately, the photo is very poor and I Emailed the eBayer asking for more info. and better photos.

But just wanted to see if I was missing something here about Presidential Reverse Proofs.

Thanks.

Hi Michael,

This is correct: 2015 (Truman, Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson)
In 2016: (Nixon, Ford, Reagan) ** There was no Nixon or Ford Coin and Chronicles

There are only 5 reverse proof Presidential $'s.

2016: There was only the Reagan RP.

This appears to be some after market type set. A 3rd party most likely altered regular proofs.

Can't tell anything from the picture but that would be my guess.

have been looking to fill out my Presidential dollars set with the "offical" reverse proof, and think I found out where these "fake" reverse proofs are coming from.

See this link:
https://www.thepatrioticmint.com/Co...lar-set.aspx

You will note that they state the reverse proofs are "privately applied", which means that they take regular coins and apply their own finish to them.

Make sure when purchasing reverse proofs on ebay, that you get real ones that were made by the US Mint, not these which are essentially regular coins that have had a custom finish put on them.

Regards,

Michael

When you asked about these reverse proofs in another thread -- http://goccf.com/t/291488 -- that listing had a picture of a Certificate of Authenticity, which listed it as a product of "First Commemorative Mint". They no longer have these on their site -- http://www.fcmint.com -- and the cases shown in this thread and your earlier one are completely different.

It's possible that one private mint had been making them and selling them through different dealers with their own display cases, or multiple mints were making their own. There's no Certificate in this listing so I can't say for sure.
