Not my coin nor my pictures. Best pictures could get after relaying to take more and how.

Beat up a bit. Skeptical but not sure any possible diagnostic that can be seen OR is absent thus showing fake.

Probably counterfeit. It just don't look right,

If it is genuine, it's value has been severely diminished due to the serious environmental damages.

Can you provide a clear photo of just the date. That would help. I gotta say that poor corroded and damaged coin is going to be a very low price except to someone trying to finish a set and isn't worried about grade.

Only 1100 proofs exist from Two Cent coins minted in 1873. This doesn't appear to be one of them.

An interesting coin! I agree, the chances this coin is genuine is pretty low. The corrosion doesn't help at all.

Very interesting. This coin would be worth sending to PCGS....Its really beat up, but the reverse rim looks like it could have been a nice proof at some point. It sure is beat the heck up and looks like it spent time underground (real or not). Would have no clue as to value it.

Is there a way to post a close up of the date? That might go a long way in determining authenticity.

Image isn't very good, appears to be a closed 3. In comparison to a known good closed 3 the date appears to be too high. I don't think the date position in relation to the denticals is right either, but the image isn't good enough to be sure.

It does look like a Closed 3. Any chance of a real close-up of the date area?

I'm very suspicious of this piece. I'm thinking that the alleged corrosion may be the consequence of some form of copying or die transfer (electrostatic?) from an original piece. I also suspect that the discoloration may be the result of trying to make the piece look like copper.

What's the weight of this piece? Does it ring like a copper 2c or does it sound like a dull click?

I agree with Conder101 that the OP coin is a Closed 3 variety. The Red Book updated the mintage estimate for the 1873 in the 67th Edition dated 2014 at 600 total for both varieties.

Here is my Closed I will include a Open 3 variety for comparison.
