Found this one in a customer wrapped roll. I don't believe it is paint as nothing comes off if scratched. Thoughts on this one?

@chronoswiss, sorry that I can't help with identifying what that zinc/silver color is, but I would strongly recommend against purposefully scratching your coin. Soaking in acetone yes, picking at it with a porcupine quill maybe, but not scratching. I'd hate to have you destroy any potential value for this coin while trying to figure out what you've got there.

Copper plating has been worn off the edge and the zinc beneath is showing through.

My first thought is that it looked like gray paint. Like someone tried to repair it with metal primer paint! Forget the copper/zinc/corrosion/plating problem. I like the struck through hit beneath the I and B in LIBERTY. Great pictures BTW!

That has to be a foreign substance applied to the coin PMD. If it was/a damaged or incompletely plated planchet, the that same color material would have extended to the edge of the planchet and when press would be on the outside edges(collar) and be obvious. Also, the highest point of the L would have that colored material. And, also if you look closely at that large "chip, the color flows over it slightly, like painting would.

The struck through is not PMD, it's a mint error.

Also being that the rim is present I would assume it's not damage from after it left the mint?

There is a strong resemblance between the OP's and the pic. above.so it may be the pre-strike plating damage!
