OK, here we go with a president Kennedy medal, but not just any one.
I am sure that there are quite a few medals, and in fact I have seen a book with them illustrated. You Americans may not know this, but he was very popular in Canada. One of my early childhood memories was at school when all the children were brought in to watch the story of the assassination on TV. Of course I had no clue what was going on, but that is beside the point.
At a recent coin show, one of the dealers I know well brought out this medal and had such a good story I decided to act on impulse and bought it. He knows medals well and said that he had never seen it before.
I searched but could not find the exact one anywhere on the internet. Google image search just gave me some goofy answers. I found a proof version made by Deutsche Numismatik in 1964 that had Kennedy's car on one side like this one but the Oswald killing on the other, rather than the latin saying on my version.
If anyone can give me any more information about mine, I would appreciate it!
It is large, about 60 millimeters in diameter and 70 grams of 1.000 silver.
Points will be awarded for any J. F. Kennedy medal (no coins).
1. Silver 2 points, anything else 1 point
2. Large (38 mm or more, US silver dollar sized) 2 points, anything else 1 point
3. Matte finish 2 points, otherwise 1 point
4. Latin legends 2 points each. Non-english legends 1 point each
5. 1 point each for each person on the medal (maximum 10 as there might be crowd portraits)
6. 1 point each for a car and or a building on the medal.
7. 1 point for olive branches.
8. 1 point for each date either/or 1963 or 1964
So this medal would garner 19 points. It is possible others will give more.
