I wanted to post a Roman coin; I have a few from African and Asian colonies, but they were all minted locally. So were the Byzantine issues for Cherson, and in any case Cherson is in Europe.

I do have a few 19th century colonial issues, and might even have a VOC duit (don't recall).

But the oldest "colonial" coin I have that wasn't minted in the colony (and isn't European) is probably this worn piece...

Yet-Another-Forum-Game---Numismatic-Go-Fish! Yet-Another-Forum-Game---Numismatic-Go-Fish!

France, 30 deniers (mousquetaire), 1710, Metz mint.
Occasionally listed as "French Colonial" (e.g. in the Red Book).

I really want to find something ancient, but I may have to go with a VOC duit.

Yea, don't know enough about the ancients I have in regards to mint/colony of those times and history...may have something just not aware of. Same with some post Medievals, just what/when for a "colony". Too new to this field of coins to be sure...

Just have to go with what I posted that I know of for sure.

I can do some ancients that were minted for non-European Roman colonies, but they were minted in those colonies.

The oldest I can think of for this challenge are the cistophoric tetradrachms minted in Rome for circulating in the eastern provinces - they aren't cheap though!

The Greek coin I was thinking of was a coin of the Bactrian king Eucratides who struck a special bi-lingual series for his conquests into India... but without mintmarks it isn't possible to prove where those coins were made.

For now, this is my oldest

Hungary, Bela III
1172-1196
Copper "fals" struck in Hungary for use in the occupation of Jerusalem during the Third Crusade
Both sides: Badly garbled Arabic

Yet-Another-Forum-Game---Numismatic-Go-Fish!

The major issue with ancient or even medieval colonial coinage is that they are both usually poorly attested, and coinage was usually a very local matter. Aside from a few Roman coins, coinage was usually either struck on site, or else the coinage was simply a "trade coin" and would circulate wherever the merchants went.

As a reminder to those sitting out - at a minimum the 1944-45 US Philippine issues count, as they were all made in the continental US for circulation in an Asian colony/territory!
Rest in Peace

Lots of interesting coins this round.

Again I find myself a spectator. I thought I had one until Finns' ancient coin was not allowed. My collection goes from ancients and then jumps to the late 1800s. I have no Medieval or Colonial times coins as of yet.

And the winner is Finn235, with an amazing coin that I had no idea even existed. Take it away, Finn.

Good round, all! I honestly didn't expect to win... I figured Spence would swoop in with one of his many Crusader coins and beat my score.

Anyway, I thought about doing another "oldest" theme, but I'll shelve it for something completely different:

Yet-Another-Forum-Game---Numismatic-Go-Fish!

I got this as a YN at a coin show close to 20 years ago in Atlanta. I kept telling myself that I would take it with me the next time I visited my grandparents out in Colorado (they live not far from there) but I just forget every time.

Each of the below counts one point:

Trade token
With denomination
To a coin shop
To Ken Hallenbeck Coin Gallery

Made of plastic (coin or token)

Value greater than $1
Denomination contains cents
Denomination contains fractions of cents (sales tax tokens count)

Made in Colorado - Coin or token!

Token (or coin!) shows:
Eagle
Mountain
Rocky Mountains specifically (bonus)
Company name
Address
Phone number
Motto or slogan
Date 1983
Date 1994
"Good for -- in trade"
No stated expiration date

Colors (colorized counts!)
Red
Yellow
Orange
Pink
Blue
Purple
Black
White

I count a total of 28 points to be had for an exact match!

Reminder that for participation points, you can post any Denver mint coin from 1983 or 1994 for two points! A 2006 D Colorado token would be worth four points - Denver mint, shows the Rockies, and has a motto!

Good luck all

Yeah sorry 'bout that. I missed out on the last round, but will strive to do better this one!

All I have in a token is a wooden nickel, not even a "good fer" written. So this will be my entry coin this round, is a colorized 2005 Wayward Journey OIV. Has a Blue, Gray, Black, Green and "red sky" with painted gold and silver(trunks). Guess you can say mountains since these are the "foothills" of what they just came down that end abruptly in the water's edge. Ob, BTW...P Mint
