Lazy repost without cropping: Coin on left is Japan 10,000 yen 1986, for Hirohito's diamond jubilee. Value at the bottom in Japanese numerals. I think I have some hyperinflationary coins somewhere, but I'm not sure if any are above 10,000? Regardless, this will buy the most things, since one of these is equal to $88.78 at this exact moment.

OK, I always wanted to be a millionaire. I will have to settle for being a mil-lira-naire I hope that someone does better. I am scratching my head as for new posting challenges.

Quote: I hope that someone does better. I am scratching my head as for new posting challenges. I'm personally hoping to see one of those 1,000,000,000,000 mark notgeld coins from Westphalia. There are many interesting possible challenges: - most/fewest sides (problem is defining a side) - largest central hole (either mm or relative to coin) - fewest letters/digits (modern coins only) - newest coin with no lettering at all - go back to original idea with a specific challenge coin

The time for posting entries has expired. Final scoreboard for this round:
1,000,000 - oriole
750,000 - Arkie
10,000 - Finn235
500 - bd251
500 - Spence
500 - Dorado
500 - mcshilling
0 - jbuck
It looks like oriole is the winner with 1,000,000 points. Congratulations. As usual, the winners can optionally pass the baton down the list, until it reaches jbuck, who would then have to decide how to proceed.

Well, let us go back to our roots. I recently acquired this "Gardiner's island" piece from my LCS. It is not a real coin, but a fantasy piece which looks like a coin. Gardiner's Island is a real place, with an interesting history. It is in New York State, part of the town of East Hampton. It has been in the Gardiner family for nearly 400 years, and William Kidd buried a treasure there once (although he did not get to keep it). So we will gain points by matching elements on the "coin", one point per match except for item #12. 1. It is not a real coin or token but a fantasy piece. 2. Eagle 3. Swan 4. Fish 5. Tree 6. Coat of arms (or a family crest or shield) 7. A motto in Latin 8. The year 1965 9. The word "island" 10. The word "Gardiner", or at least matching 4 consecutive letters, like "gard" or "diner".Thus "Asgard" would get you a point (I don't know why I am being this silly!) 11. Size: 1 point if it is 35 millimeters in diameter or larger 12. Metal: 1 point if silver or silver plated. 2 points if gold or gold plated. Ending time: Tuesday, October 23, 7 pm.
