@slerk, I'm glad to see you participating, but no sorry but that isn't quite right.

Here are the original rules as stated by @finn235:

Quote:
Starting with the coin I post here, one person poses a "challenge" coin. All other members then compete to post another example of that coin first. Whoever posts it first (determined by posting order on the forum time) wins! To keep a steady pace, the criteria will become more general every 24 hours until either someone posts a qualifying coin, or nobody can produce an example. After 72 hours, the challenger wins, and can either post another coin, or nominate someone else to go.

The intent of the current challenge is for you to scour through your coin collection and find all coins with a weight of at least 10 g. Then, select the one of those with the smallest diameter and post it to this thread. Whoever posts the smallest coin that meets the weight threshold will lead us in our next contest (with different criteria for winning).

There must be some Indian dump coins out there that weigh 10 g but are pretty small in diameter.

Thanks guys!

Had to come up with a fresh challenge for you all...

One of the most convenient features of modern coins is that they mostly bear dates, allowing us to articulate which calendar year they were struck during (mostly). For this challenge, we are going with the opposite -

Post your coin that cannot be assigned to a particular year!

Widest margin of uncertainty wins!

Challenge coin:

Yet-Another-Forum-Game---Numismatic-Go-Fish!
Silk Road kingdoms, Soghd
AR "obol", "Antiochus" series
Degenerated bearded head left
Archer standing right, holding bow and (arrows?)

The earliest coins in this series bear the Greek legend BAΣΛEΩΣ ANTIOXOY, linking them to one of the 13 kings named Antiochus of the Seleucid kingdom, which collapsed in about 60 BC. Estimates of minting range from the first century BC, and the general consensus is that they were replaced with local imitations of Chinese cash in the mid to late 7th century AD - a total margin of roughly 700 years!

While this challenge is admittedly skewed a bit more toward ancients, there are plenty of contenders from the modern era:
- The lowly 1964 nickel was made until early 1966 with the 1964 date
- Austria minted 1 kreuzer coins dated 1816 until 1852
- For this challenge we will allow the Maria Theresa thaler, but please try to narrow it down if you can (there are ways to tell between a 18th century and 20th century restrikes)
- China's famous Qianlong emperor ruled for 60 years, and IIRC most types cannot be refined to a narrow part of his reign

Good luck all!

Aren't there some 1976 ikes that might have been released in 1975 or 1976?

Good example!

I think the inverse is true - the Type I/II Ike dollars can be attributed to 75 or 76 (since they were included in the mint/proof sets for those years) but I don't recall if there are any markers to attribute quarters or halfs.

Correct, the variety I Ikes were in 1975 mint and proof sets and the variety II Ikes were in the 1976 sets.

I agree that the quarter and half dollars would be a good choice here.
