This is a tough contest since much of my collection is predicated on buying coins for which the date can be narrowed down, ideally to within one year. Looks like I'm gonna have to choose from among several medieval Indian coins to get the best spread.

Unknown Greek/Roman states copper unit coin

Yet-Another-Forum-Game---Numismatic-Go-Fish!
Yet-Another-Forum-Game---Numismatic-Go-Fish!

Similar to Beotian and Theban copper units showing a God (Hermes or Apollo - or Pan?) on one side and a Horse on the other.

Scanning Numista found many coins like it - but none I could identify.

Yet I found it with 4 or 5 4th century AD Roman copper coins of Diocletian, Maxentius and Constans II.

There is a isolated chance its a fake, but its low denom and looks very crude and real.

Guess of date - anytime between 4th century BC and 2nd century AD.

Weigns 6/7 grams 22mm wide at widest point, 2 - 3mm thick. Almost certainly bronze.

Here is a Kahnvanu from the Cholas Dynasty that dates to anywhere in the 1000 to 1275 AD range. I had bought it thinking that it could be identified to a much tighter date range.

I agree--coins of gold, silver, and copper, with four from India, two from ancient Greece, and one each from medieval Europe and 20th Century USA. I don't think that we normally get such a broad representation in these challenges.

I'm tempted to use this coin, and I probably would, but it's hard to say how to count its points when the usual attribution is a relatively narrow range... but those narrow ranges are all over the place.

I think I've seen it placed basically anywhere from 1st to 8th century AD.

Bukhara (occasionally given as Chach or Sogdiana), Asbar, AE18 scyphate fals (unit).
Probably somewhere between 1st and 8th century AD. Opinions differ.

Numista 84855 (attributed to 632-790 AD), aka Numista 198774 (attributed to 450-501 AD).

(For the record, the first photo is about the right color, for both sides; the second one is only like this because taking a flash photo of the inner side of a scyphate coin with a smartphone is surprisingly tricky.)

Nice one @j1m! I too struggle with taking pics of scyphate coins.

I definitely agree that the recent curved US coins are hard to photograph (Zerene Stacker is needed). I guess these coins could be called "scyphate".
