Quote: but if it helps my lowball set is less complete than yours Only if you don't count the octagonal 1866. My photo hides the gaps, and includes 1874 and 1874-H separately. (The full listing is here. I don't believe I've added any new ones since.) My own date gaps are 1869, 1878, 1883, 1888, 1892, and 1893, the first three of which we apparently share; you have a full run of the late 1880s and early 1890s, while I have a full run of the early 1870s, but if you count your 1866 we're both at six missing dates. My 1860 is pretty bad, and I have several different 1861/62/63 pennies (not on the photo, which just shows the most worn of each date), one of which I suspect might be a rare variety.

I wanted to discuss that octagonal penny, as someone did it years ago and I find it hilarious, some homejob with pliers and a blow torch or something, but the thread on mutilated coins got shut down as it was over a year since replies. I am happy with the lowball pennies as I got 90 dates for about $10 in total and the later pennies are much nicer. They make a good base for me to build on. Can I ask were you like when you saw that octagonal penny? Many people when I show them it for the first time are the same reaction when I show them a photo of Prince in the Lovesexy era - just "What the hell?"

That is large as in dominating the design, not the actual size of the mammal.

Very nice Since the chances of a tie are rather large, if that happens the oldest coin will win.
