Quote: So I will hand it over to mysilveryears Way to go mysilveryears with an exact match! We generally allow three days for entries but since he has already won, I guess it would be just show and tell to run it any longer. Your call, fourmack.

Quote:All I have is a repeat... I was hoping you'd be able to post again. Quote: show and tell it is At the very least, this will give mysilveryears some time to come up with a truly spectacular challenge.

Quote: a truly spectacular challenge. Is that the general preference? I am more inclined to put up something that allows for a lot of responses, to encourage more participation. I'm sure it would be fairly easy to stump the masses with something totally obscure, or prohibitively expensive. But it's more fun seeing multiple entries because we all like coins, no matter how ordinary, and most of us do not have the budgets for the truly phenomenal. That includes me. So what shall it be .. .. I have a bunch of day duties to attend to, so look for something later this evening.

OK, folks; here is the next challenge. I am going to call this one 'The First Jedi' in honor of *that* movie about to hit the theaters. The Challenge: Post a coin with someone carrying a light saber sword. The oldest coin dated with numerals all of us can easily read, will win. Not the largest (although size will be a bonus.) Not even an exact match (which would not surprise me at all, since this is a relatively common coin), unless it also happens to be the oldest shown. Coin shown here is a 40mm silver Saxony thaler from 1590. Points awarded as follows: - Coin from 1400's or older (remember, it needs to have a legible date): 7 points. -from 1500's: 6 points. -from 1600's: 5 points. -from 1700's: 4 points. -from 1800's: 3 points. -from 1900's: 3 points. -from 2001 or newer: 3 points. Bonus points: 1 point for anything 38mm or larger. May the farce be with you

Good challenge! I have a few early dated coins, but I can't recall if any have swords.
When you say "date that can be easily read" does that exclude the dates from the 1500s that only use the last two digits?

Interesting challenge! I have a few dated coins from the 1400s http://goccf.com/t/269713&whichpage=1), but I don't see any with a sword being wielded on any of them. Imperial orbs, cathedrals, and keys, but no swords. Maybe @pepactponius has one? Therefore, here is my entrant: a 1/2 Groshen of Lithuania (Vilnius mint). The obv legend is MONETA SIGISMVNDI 1Z, where the last two digits are for the date (1512 AD). Also on the obv is a horseman with a sword.
