And I know jbuck must have a lowball IKE
Well, some may consider this cheating. However, it could be considered an upgrade based on the dates acquired and me retroactively assigning purpose to them.

I have two slabbed 1976 variety 2 Ikes in my PCGS set. I did not intend for one to upgrade or replace the other. I still have both in the Lighthouse slab box in which I keep the Ike set.

I received this as a gift from nickelsearcher on 24 August 2017. I never put it in the slot reserved for this date-mint-variety; it was placed at the other end of the box where I have another duplicate PCGS Ike.

Yet-Another-Forum-Game---Numismatic-Go-Fish!

On 23 May 2018 I bought this one to fill the actual slot for the set...

Yet-Another-Forum-Game---Numismatic-Go-Fish!

A 62 point grade swing.

So, per the rules this is 12 points? (Six for grade difference, double for same date.)

I leave eligibility to the judges.

JBuck, I am going to give you 14 points and the lead, as your before coin is AG, which means I round it down to Fair.

Thats a jump of 7 conditions up Fair - Good - VG - Fine - VF - XF - AU - UNC - So you are in the lead!

Dorado, I award you 4 points, your first coin is Good in my opinion and the 2nd is just above Fine - so 4 points for you! I wish I could give you more for such an interesting and exotic piece.

I am dying to know how you got an AG3 Ike though, I seldom see these worn. The serious worst would be VF, maybe down to high Fine at worst. Was this coin in an angle grinder or in a machine that rubbed it with oil non stop for 20 years?

Participation points - not even sure if British grading applies to ancients with up to 5mm of design relief to wear down? Still fun to see them side by side.

Alexander the Great tetradrachms, both lifetime, different mints, left is maybe G, right somewhere on the XF/AU scale.

Arkle, your after coin looks "Wizzed" and cleaned. I will say its VF (Quite flat detail on cheek and hair), before coin is Good - so for you 6 points

Finn - I am going to give you 6, as that coin you have is about as good as an ancient gets - I am struggling to see any wear on it at all, and surely to God a truly MS coin from 300BC would be impossible unless its a reproduction, so I will just say Uncirulated.

I have also decided coins from a pre datable era, that look the same will be eligible for double points as well - so you have 12 points and what a stunning coin!

Just loving all the entries, everyone is offering something different!

We will have to ask nickelsearcher. I thought he gave me the details in an e-mail, but I cannot find them. All I recall is he acquired it and sent it into PCGS with a group submission just to see how low it would go.

I suspect it make have either been a pocket piece or spent some time in a Nevada casino.

Let's see if I can slip this in. I don't think it will win, but here are my 1942-D Jefferson nickels.

The upgrade is definitely UNC. I'll accept your grade on the first one, Princetane.

Well I can't see Monticello - so can't really give a full grade

I will say Good for the part I can see, and UNC for later coin

= 10 points, however I will take off 5 for only one side (The other could be Fine for all we know).

You receivee 5 points.

And with that ends of the contest.

Winner with 14 points - J Buck

Special Mention for Finn235 for his gorgeous Greek coin
Thanks all of you for entering!

J Buck take it away.

No, actually it's MS on the other side. I was just hoping to get away with posting only the bad side so I could claim the coveted fourth place spot.

I like the post two coins aspect of the last round, so let me keep that going.

Post a "newer" and "older" coin of the same denomination.
  • The number of years separating the two are are the base points.
  • Double your points if the coins are the same size (or intended to be the same in the event they are struck out of collar) or have the same material composition, for example: 90% silver.
  • Triple your points if they are the same size and have the same material composition.
  • Points are HALVED if only one side of either coin is shown.

My example...

Newer

1990 Eisenhower Centennial Dollar

Yet-Another-Forum-Game---Numismatic-Go-Fish!

Older

1847 Seated Liberty dollar

Yet-Another-Forum-Game---Numismatic-Go-Fish!

143 year difference. Same size and same content (90% silver): 3 x 143 = 429.

Additional:
  • Different sizes allow Large dollars and Small dollars to be compared.
  • Denomination is actual value, therefore the Half Dime and five cents ("nickel") are the same (and also different sizes). Other countries may have the same examples.
  • The coins do not have to be from the same country (additional cause for different sizes). Dollars, cents, pounds, whatever. No bonus for same or penalty for different.

I will handle questions/concerns as they come up and my decisions are final.
