I was trying to go for a spin-off of Jbucks' challenge, but the rules got too tricky, so I'll do a similar challenge in the same spirit. Post your oldest high grade coin (Minimum XF/AU) And you newest lowball (Maximum FR/AG) 1 point between them = 1 year; highest point value wins! Cleaned older coins are acceptable (all ancients are cleaned), and your new coin can have damage, but tooled or deliberately damaged coins are ineligible - you can't post a road rash penny as a Poor coin! If either coin isn't dateable, or the lowball doesn't have a legible date, use the most conservative estimates possible. Challenge coins: Old - Alexander the Great AR Tetradrachm, lifetime issue before 323 BC New - 194x War Nickel (the S is just *barely* legible) 323 BC to 1942 AD = 2,265

Already that rules me out - my oldest coin EF or better is an 1860 farthing and I don't have any coin after 1942 thats below AG (I have a bag of junk silver pieces dating from the 1850s to 1940s.
May do one as participation later.

I think this is my widest spread for this round USA, 2 cent$, 1864. I would say this is probably AU/cleaned. Canada, 25 cents, (1912-1936) 1864 to 1912 = 48

This is about the best I can do within the parameters: 1882H Canada cent 1907 Colombia 5 pesos I think that's 25 points.

Looks like I might need to come up with an idea unless someone can swoop in with the win.

I may pony up after all 1860 farthings, one on left is AU, right would be EF (Just) 1924 Halfcrown - Both coins UK Score 64 points for me, good enough to be in the bottom half. This might just pass for AG3 - some might put it up to full Good4 (Sorry I just don't really collect truly worn out coins much). JBuck, this challeneg was a good idea, but I guess not many people are actively going to collect modern stuff that is worn out, your AG3 Ike is cool - but lets face that coin is a maverick piece. Plus on the other side finding trult stunning coins that are ancient or even old is more difficult, as some of the rich guys can show like Alexandrine silver pieces, many of us are showing 19th century copper and small silver. Maybe next challenge - perhaps may do the same thing, but just the most points for biggest gap - say a Proof 70 coins vs a Flat disk identifiable to type 0 or something. Just my 2 shiny farthings and beaten up halfcrown

Ok this coin is graded buy PCGS at AU-58 While I may disagree. It's like they say "You Don't Know You Weren't There Man". To everyone that was. 1198-1219 Armenia Tram AU-58 I would grade this quarter as P.O.S. I can see the stars so I will call it 1917

I wonder if I should just post a late 19th century coin as the high-grade one, or if I should look for an older example.
(I have a bunch of ancient and/or medieval coins that are high grade for their age, and/or for the type, but offhand I can't think of any that I would honestly call XF. The oldest coin I graded XF in my Numista collection is from the 1840s.)
I'm fairly sure what I'm going to post as the lowball, though!

Arkle I think so, but we need some dates - I am assuming they are 3rd century AD antonniannus's - the top one is one of the Gordians so 238AD or 256 if G3.
January1May - can't hurt me and a few others can't compete with the gleaming ancients, so 19th and 20th century is fine here. Plus we (Well myself) love seeing Russian and East european coins.
