I am not sure how many points, but your guess is as good as mine.

Failing that, I will enter this

Yet-Another-Forum-Game---Numismatic-Go-Fish!

British, Victoria, fraction denomination, shield, lions x 7, 19th century, 32mm = 15 points. Plus the Channel Islands only had their own coppers, these large silver coins were used there!

In 1957 they got their 3d coins, and a one off 10 shilling coin in 1966, but not until 1971 did they get their own coin sets and were fully free of UK coins.

Sadly they did not make a halfcrown in 1870!

Coin from the UK or any of its colonies or dependencies: 1 point
Any of the Channel Islands: 1 point
Jersey: 1 point

Features Queen Victoria: 2 points
Features a Coat of Arms: 1 point
Features a lion: 1 point each

Material: Bronze or brass: 1 point
Size: "Penny size" (25-35mm): 1 point

Unusual denomination (does not fit readily into decimal or base-12 monetary system): 1 point

I'd like to slide this one in under the wire if I can. It is a Double of the other Channel Island (Guernesey) dated 1885.

Here is my challenge.

Yet-Another-Forum-Game---Numismatic-Go-Fish!
Yet-Another-Forum-Game---Numismatic-Go-Fish!

This is a 50 Vatu coin of Vanuatu. The challenge is

Post a coin from the most exotic country you can think of, seems easy. Here is the points scoring and rules.

Plus points - 1 for each
1. Country has become independent since 1970 (So from January 1 1970 onwards)
2. Coin is in a native language of the country (So if its Pacific or African - not a European langauge - although if its bilingual thats okay) - 1 point for each foreign language (India is excluded as its 1947 independence)
3. Coin shows a indigenous person of the country - 1 point per person, must be discernable, no stick figures.
4. Coin shows a native plant, fish, animal, flower etc - 1 point for each.
5. The country has a population under 100,000 + 1 point
Under 10,000 + 5 points
6. The coin is in regular everyday circulation, now or in the past.
7. Coin was issued after independence (Year of independence is acceptable).

Minus points (- 1 for each, except 4)

1. Country is not in the Pacific or Indian Oceans or Africa - 1 point
2. Coin was minted before the independence of the country.
3. Country has a population of over 5 million.
4. The country is still a colony or overseas territory of another country (Instant disqualification)
5. Coin is not a standard circulating piece (This does include NCLT or "wallpaper coins") -

I will leave it up to you score yourself.

Enter as many coins as you like - but only the HIGHEST scoring will count.

The size, value and metal content count for nothing, if it circulates - it counts.

And coins of Vanuatu are excluded

UPDATE: THE LANGUAGE RULE HAS BEEN RESCINDED, ANY LANGUAGE NATIVE OR COLONIAL IS FINE!

Zimbabwe 20 cents 1991

Yet-Another-Forum-Game---Numismatic-Go-Fish!

- Independence in 1980 +1
- regular circulation coin +1
- minted after independence +1

- Language? I'm going to go with 0 poins here as the only text on the coin the the name of the country which is supposed to have been derived from a Shona word for "stone houses" or "venerated houses" (see Wikipedia link, etymology section)

- population over 5 million -1

Total score: 2 points

I give you 4 points, Zimbabwe is an African word like you said and the soapstone bird is acceptable as a native animal.

Good start!

Cape Verde Islands

1. Country has become independent since 1970 (So from January 1 1970 onwards)--1975
4. Coin shows a native plant, fish, animal, flower etc - 1 point for each. Unclear if grass/wheat in national emblem is native plant
6. The coin is in regular everyday circulation, now or in the past.
7. Coin was issued after independence (Year of independence is acceptable).

Minus points (- 1 for each, except 5)

Wikipedia says it is in Africa

2. The coin only has European or colonial languages on it. Unclear National emblem identifies national name in Portuguese. Cannot identify source of sailing ship.

Cool. I didn't think to count the bird because the coin specifically depicts the bird sculpture. According to Wikipedia "it probably represents the bateleur eagle or the African fish eagle."
