This is about the best I have

Sassanian empire, Peroz I
459-484

Yet-Another-Forum-Game---Numismatic-Go-Fish!

Although he ruled for 25 years, this coin was made in about the last 22; he used three total crown styles, this being the last and longest-used. Unlike many other Persian emperors at the time, Peroz did not place a date on his coins.

Most of my other coins can either be dated much more narrowly, or have a 50+ year window of uncertainty.

And the final scores are:

Three points:
1) pepactonius: a 24 year range.

Two points:
2) Finn235: a 22 year range (and a 2 year difference).
3) Crazyb0: a 21 year range (and a 3 year difference).
4) Arkie: an 18 year range (and a 6 year difference).
5) spruett001: an 8 year range, using Crazyb0's range (and a 16 year difference).
6) bd251: a 4 year range (and a 20 year difference).

One point:
7) jbuck: 1 year.

So, pepactonius, the victory goes to you!

The goal of this challenge is to post a coin with a sailing ship. The ship with the most sails wins.

One point is awarded for each sail that is clearly (but perhaps partly) visible on the coin. For coins with more than one sailing ship, only the sails visible on one of the ships (with the most sails) will count.

Other restrictions:

- no ship images from stamps, currency, medals, private rounds, art bars, plates, bowls, placques, metal wall engravings etc. will count. Only coins issued by or on behalf of a governemnt will count. They must have a denomination, either explicit or implicit, and can be either circulating coins, NCLTs, commemoratives, etc.

- only sails that are open (not tied up, etc.) count.

- sails that are completely hidden behind other sails on the coin do not count.

- banners and flags flying from masts/etc. do not count -- just sails.

- there are no bonuses for an exact match or the same country, date, etc.

- the score is one point per sail and ties are won by the first poster (as usual in this thread).

Here's an example coin:

Poland, 1982 500 zlotych:

Yet-Another-Forum-Game---Numismatic-Go-Fish!

I count 26 sails on this coin. Anyone who posts an exact match will get 26 points (no bonuses).

This round ends Feb 27, 2018 at 11:40PM.

OH! Sorry, I thought you said tales...!

Best I can come up with on "sails" is this one. It is the USS Constitution with what I count is 9 sails. You didn't stipulate unfurled, just seen

Yeah... I should have put a little more thought into the year-counting process...

Oh well!

I like your attitude Joseph!

I think Crazyb0 just really wanted to beat me in the last challenge... Actually, I agree. The design looks older than 70s and early 80s LMCs to me. That's actually better for the coin.

Now...

I know I have posted some in the "Sailing Ships" topic, but I will have to revisit my few coins to find the best.

Hello again, I think I have a coin that meets the criteria this time. Here is my entry:

1893 Columbian Half Dollar

I count five sails.

I think that my South African Penny will provide me with 9 points in this round (one sail up front, 3 fully open sails on the first mast, two fully and one partly open sails on the middle mast, and one fully and one just barely partly open sail on the stern mast).
