Ok I will take new pictures right now. I don't really have the extra money to have it sent to a grading company so I want to make sure it's the real deal before I spend my money Edit:New pictures are up Quote: Set your iphone on a tissue box, and place the coin under your phone, now get a lamp and shine it over the coin, so the shadow of you iphone doesn't hit the coin. Tap the date area of the coin on your iphone to focus it and snap a pick. That was really helpful Coinlover1899 thanks!

Sadly, with the new pics, I think it might be a regular 18 D, but the first picture of the date looks otherwise.

Should I just acid wash them then coinlover1899? Quote: Sadly, with the new pics, I think it might be a regular 18 D, but the first picture of the date looks otherwise. Coinlover1899 I just to make sure you realize that the first four pictures are one coin And the last three are of a different coin So I don't really understand your comment sorry if I wasn't clear enough

If you can see the date, like the coins you have posted here, no. Most people will not buy an acid treated coin, they would much rather have a well worn example with a weak date. Ok Coinlover1899 so what's your opinion do you think they are the real 1918/17 D over date variety?

Sadly, no I don't, I would not get them graded, but still definitely keepers, as they are still key dates.

The second one has the mintmark in the wrong location, so that is a regular 1918-D. I still think the first coin has a good shot, the loops are offset. I would save it for an ANACS submission at least.

I just wanted to let everyone know that today when I went to the coin show at Melville I had a few dealers look at the first nickel and they believe it's real! I'm am going to send it to ANACS for authentication. Not sure when that will be but I hope to do it as soon as possible
