I certainly could be wrong, but I suspect it's a modern tourist fake. Based on the Aramaic (?...actually looks like a Greek omega too) legend to the left of the warrior, I wonder if it may be loosely referencing a Tarsos, Cilicia issue, perhaps of Datames or Pharnabazos, like at the links.

It looks a lot like the kind of token that I encounter often at tourist souvenir stalls in the Mediterranean area, preferably next to historical sites.

My knowledge of ancient coins is a it limited, but good enough to have my suspicions. I have a few ancient Persian coins and they don't look like this at all. Perhaps you can share a bit more on how you got this coin?

It belongs to a friend who was given it by a gentleman who is bow in his late 70s and is iranian by birth. It was Apparently he was given /acquired it around the time of the iranian revolution in the late 70s early 80s when he then had to flee the country .....the story goes that it belonged to a collector and was taken in liue of a debt.
Rest in Peace

The stories attached to these tourist fakes are always elaborate. True or false this item is worth a few cents for its metal value. If there is a family attachment to the piece it could be enjoyed for that reason.

That's indeed a spectacular story, and it raises a few questions, like why was it so important to get this coin out of Iran around the revolution and why did the man give your friend such a valuable coin...

I've checked my sources for history of Persian coins and couldn't find anything that even remotely looks like this piece. Given the design of the helmet I guess it's more inspired by more Mediterranean cultures in nowadays Greece or Turkey. That still doesn't make sense with the other side of the coin then, though: the two sides don't really seem to match in look and culture. I'd also expect that, if it was genuine, that it'd have been made of silver or gold. Somehow this doesn't seem to be it. The look and shine doesn't seem to match. But please feel free to ask a local coin shop or jeweler if my assumption is right, to be sure. And finally, there seems to be a suspicious amount of dark on the lower parts of the coin. artificially adding some blackening there is a known way to make a coin look 'old'. Our 'friends' in China use it a lot on their fakes.

So I agree with moxking. If this has emotional value then I'd keep it for that reason. Also, please keep in mind that I'm making a diagnosis based on two pictures and my knowledge of this field. I might be proven wrong by someone with more expertise here, so don't just throw it away.

@goosed, first welcome to CCF. Second, I wonder if you could also post a couple pics of the edge of this piece? I agree that this looks like a modern fake, but seeing the edge might help confirm one way or the other.
