Hello.
I looked at this and didn't know what to make of it so I went to other threads thinking something would come to mind when I came back....
It looks a lot like MD but I'm used to seeing the width remain the same along the device. Still, I suspect that's all it is.

I too wasn't and still aren't quite sure what to make of it. Thank you for your reply. I agree with MD but as you stated the width or span changes as it goes around the nose and towards Lincoln's mouth. Thanks again for the reply and info.

I do think part of it is MD but by the bridge of the nose looks like something different. Also, it is helpful to also post an image of the coin in it's proper rotation :)

The bridge of nose almost looks like a die clash?

I think it may be a die clash. I typed in die clash on Google and sure enough the 1st picture it brought up was a picture of a 1995 penny with the same markings around the nose. The only exception being the 1 I have posted has a larger raised area above the bridge of the nose. The pic it brought up happened to be from an older discussion on this forum. Thank all of you for all of the info.

Quote: The bridge of nose almost looks like a die clash? I don't think it is. I was thinking more of a die gouge or feeder finger die scrape. Unless the die was really tilted there is nothing that would make that - what we normally see just under the bridge of the nose is a line coming straight out from the nose (not coming down on an angle. Can you post an image of the whole coin please?
