I have a few quarters that have doubling in IN GOD WE TRUST. I cant figure out if they are MD or DD. Can someone show me pics of the difference in IN GOD WE TRUST. I also want to know how to tell the 1939 nickel with reverse of 38 or 40. And also where can I get a high powered magnifying glass and what do you suggest. I have a magnifying glass but certain errors are hard to see with them like the 1988 RDV-006.

Hi,
I have several loupes. I have a nice B&L and an old Nikon loupe originally used in printmaking, but the best loupe for the money in my opinion now ( if you don't mind former Russian technology) is a BelOMO. They are extremely good for the price, look at https://www.belomo.us and they are also on Amazon. Expect to pay 20+. They come in 10X and 20X and maybe others also.

Hi, take a look at this example, credit to Ken Potter. I've found that every coin series has a different look to its doubled dies, but the general principles are the same. There are a few good posts on the difference between MD and DD, and here's a good one on doubled dies.

Here's one of my favorite DDOs I've found on an 1887 Indian Head cent:

Is it worth keeping coins with ghost lettering? I have a 1999 CT ghost oak and was wondering if its even worth keeping.

There are over 100 pages (each) of Quarters and Nickels listed in the Cherry Picker's Guides.
Volume I: Nickels
Volume II: Quarters.
Consider buying both books.

Typically, ghost lettering is worth keeping. Would love to see pictures.

I was gonna buy Cherry Pickers Guide today but was a bit pricey did pick up the ANA grading guide. Want to get better at grading coins accurately. Next will be the Cherry Pickers Guide. Nice looking book I read through it a bit and there are TONS of errors to look for.
