I recently sent in 73 coins to NGC for grading. Of the total, 31 came back as 70's while the rest are 69's. This seems to be a pretty good percentage to me, but I wanted to get feedback from others on this.

The coins were a mix of 2006 anniversary ASE sets and gold & silver sets, 25th anniversary ASE sets and 2012 ASE 2 coin sets.

NGC appears to be kinda "loose" on giving out grades in comparison to PCGS.

-or-

PCGS is kinda "tight" on giving out grades in comparison to NGC

-or-

Most ASE's are fairly high in quality.

-or-

I blame it on the eclipse.

Also, I would agree that 31/73 seems like a high percentage to get 70s. I wouldn't have guessed that, you should have made a guess the percentage thread....

Simply compare your results to the listings NGC and PCGS report for grade results for anything they've certified.

Or use Heritage and you can have both on the same page.

As you know, going with NGC on encapsulation for those issues is the smart choice, not because of easier grading - but because of ease of sales and price received for NGC.

With modern bullion coins, a return of 30% at MS70 automatically suggests that these coins in pristine condition are very common.

With U.S. classic coins, MS67 and above are about as rare as chicken's teeth.

Thanks, Moxking. The NGC site is very helpful. Interesting that the 25th anniversary set has double the 70's to 69's.
