The stuff above the date is damage (zinc rot).
Not sure if that's what you're talking about.
Rest in Peace

No harm in asking. Keep hunting-- there's good stuff out there.

And...

to the family!

Really not sure what you think is an error, should explain and give pix of rear is helpful.

There is a slightly MAD(misaligned die) at 10 o'clock with very slight start of finning and what looks to be "linear plating bubbles" northward of the date. That's a plating problem, not an error, common on "zincolns"!

Thanks everyone.. yes it is the area above the date that I'm asking about. I took this penny with me to a coin show a few years ago and one of the coin graders from PCGS said it was definitely an error but it was more of an opinion as I did not pay him for his service just simply showed him the coin and ask him if it was something I should hold on to..to which he replied "yes, you've definitely got an error here" and he went on to tell me how I should store it so that no air could get to it etc. Not sure if anyone of you had a chance to zoom in on the date but to me it it looks like it could possibly be the letter S (rotated 90 degrees from the direction of the date) no one else sees this?
Rest in Peace

Yeah, I see it, but it's just one of those odd coincidences, like a potato chip shaped like a cat.

There's no harm in keeping it to see what happens to it over time. You've already got some pics of it, and it might be interesting to see if the zinc rot progresses when properly stored. I think it will....but I don't know for sure or how fast it would happen.
