What exactly do you folks expect to sell your ASE for at your LCS? One local shop told me he'd give me spot, the other said 3%-5% behind spot. What about junk silver? One said 9-10FV, the other said 11XFV. If a dealer pays 10X FV, then he pays you $100 on 10 bucks worth of junk silver, correct? What is fair on buy back junk silver? I've got 33 silver rounds that he said he'd buy for one dollar under spot. Are any of these prices fair? I know on the ASE for example, he can easily sell them for $2-$3 over spot. *** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. ***

Quote: What about junk silver? I'm pretty sure that the multiplier changes with the denomination ("junk" silver dollars have a higher multiple than "junk" silver dimes).

On your ASE's it's all about the date - You sure arent going to sell a 94,95, or 96 for spot if they are in decent shape. And when they say junk silver - make sure it is.

Correct, I wouldn't sell older ASE at spot. The coins I'm talking about selling are 2014, 2015 and 2016 coins. Even those recent years should go for spot plus a dollar? What's fair for junk Franklin halves? What's fair for 10oz Sunshine Mint sliver bars?

Mark1959: Just remember a LCS is in business to make money whereas at ebay the seller is making the profit an LCS would. Prices realize a higher markup on ebay, why its used instead of dealers. Folks here sell junk silver seems to be 12.5%-13.3%FV, depending if absoult slick or worn date commons. At 11% spot that's about right for LCS, he'll sell for 14% easily. Markets too soft to make much.

So in the future, I'm better off selling on ebay? What happened is that I bid on the 2015 Libertad Reverse Proof set that contained the BU, proof and reverse proof coin and unexpectedly won the bid. I've got to quickly shuffle some of my stack around to pay for this set.

Your LCS prices are fair. Most don't pay numi value on bulk sales, they don't have time to pour over individual coins. ebay? It's up to the individual. Personally, I'd rather take a loss at the local dealer, or go have a root canal done, than to have to deal with ebay sales. My time is worth much more than an extra 10 % that I'd make there.

If you can get within 15% of ebay at a dealer - done deal. No postage, no pictures, no hassle, no returns, etc.

My LCS buys silver at spot and sells it for a few bucks more. I think he makes his money buying coin collections from old timers and the widows of long time collectors since he is a pretty honest guy. I have met and done some business with other dealers that were real jerks. I think they use the gray sheet to buy numismatic type coins. It seems to me they pay about 60% of retail or maybe less.
