When US troops entered Britain in World War II, they were given small booklets about British culture, different meanings of words and the coins and notes used. Was there a similar for French culture and coins ?

Was there a similar book for US troops in France during World War I ?
Rest in Peace

Not sure, have never heard of any French booklet WW1. some units in England pre D-Day 1944 were issued French and German script(OSS & PsyOps groups) which predated occupation scripts. Not sure how much culture information given to the cannon fodder foot soldier but officers and MP's were schooled in working with civilian culture differences...?

Pretty sure those were just simple English/French translion examples, "Do you speak English?"...Par le vou Fran'se. Etc. In a pronunciation form of writing. We had similar in Vietnamese.

@pertinax, well @crazyb0 is mostly correct.

There are about 12 chapters and the first 11 cover phrases of use to soldiers in different situations. Some are mundane like "where is a barber?" while others are more military in nature "what airfield is this?" or "barbed wire". The last chapter has pictographs of various road signs. I don't see anything that specifically addresses French culture. With regard to French money, there is a very short section that covers Francs, Sous, and Centimes. After the pronunciation, abbreviation, French-spelling, there is the US equivalent. A Franc is listed as being worth 2 cents.

Hope this helps. You doing some research or something?

Ok now that sounds pretty interesting, but I'm thinking that my book actually was not particularly helpful. Hopefully, you've got plenty of other resources.
