laverdajohn Valued Member United Kingdom 175 Posts	Posted 08/29/2017 5:18 pm I was looking at a pair of 1874 Straits Settlements 1 Cent Coins today - one of them is 1874 and one is 1874H. the 1874 is (correctly as far as I can tell) in the medal Orientation but the Heaton variety is in the coin orientation - I can't find any info as to if this is normal so thought I would ask here. All sources I could find do not seem to mention whether it is normal for 1874 dated Heaton cents to be in coin orientation. Mine also seems to be in coin, not medal like rest of the series. Anaximander Pillar of the Community United Kingdom 709 Posts	Posted 08/08/2018 6:30 pm Like you my references make no mention of the coin alignment. The numista entry only shows medal alignment. There is a book which might answer your question. Coins and Coinages of the Straits Settlements and British Malaya 1786 to 1951 by Fred Pridmore published 1968 I dont have a copy and Amazon advertises it at around the £170 mark.
