I keep seeing the same inventory. The decent stuff either has retail starting prices or "Buy it now". The auction of commons seems to be the only things changing.

Right--if you don't sell it the first time, try again at the same price! I've seen that a lot on ebay.

I think this results from dealers or collectors buying unmarketable, damaged or overpriced inventory, which they often overgrade to cover their expenses. That said, many dealers at shows will actually cut prices on excess stock to move it. Not so on eBay--put up a blurry photo and expect Red Book prices! It's rather silly, imo.

I stopped collecting US coins because of the abundance of people who were willing to overpay for almost anything. I figured that eventually the craze created by the State Quarter program will wear off and prices will dip. In the meantime I can find deals on ebay for darkside coins on almost a daily basis.

The right buyer (or some naive beginner) at the right time will pick it up the BIN if it's within reason.

One problem is that it's so cheap to continue listing the same coin at an outrageous price if you have a 'store' on ebay. But if you find specific auctions that are outrageous please detail them on my contest in the contest section!
