Can anyone please let me know if this is the large date variety of the 5 cent coin? From my research, I believe it is. Would it be worth having the coin graded?
Thanks!

But I think your coin is a counterfeit.
I hope you didn't have to pay too much for it.
I can see at least 6 areas of concern.
Maybe one of our knowledgeable Victoria era
members can verify this.

If it's genuine, small date imo.

I'm more inclined to think it's genuine, but am not expert on the series, especially the 1875 5 cent, lots of varieties in the date- the 1 on this one is quite off? I'm having a hard time seeing the surface but overall from pictures l lean towards genuine. Someone here can help am sure.

I agree with Alan.
I'm leaning towards genuine small date.
It does have a plugged A and mark on the neck like counterfeits do, but it is OBV2 as is correct for this date, typical counterfeits are OBV3.
The 1 in the date is likely damaged as it does not look like either the typical fakes or the genuine thing.

Thanks everyone for your input. I am 99% sure it is genuine- weight and size is spot on. This was not purchased- found in a jar of coins saved by a relative. When I compare position of leaf below the 5 with photos in link sent by Dorado, it appears to match position of large date.Guess only way to tell for sure is send for grading.

emm...the size of the 1875 in the large date is completely different...

look at the size of the date relative to the word "cents"...

there is no ambiguity here..

Absolutely not true, unlike grading, variety identification is a matter of fact not opinion, when it comes to these types of date varieties canadian-varieties' batting average is actually higher than the TPG's.
Here's just one example; http://goccf.com/t/295202
