Hello all, I just received two invoices from a recent auction I participated in. First they charged me shipping twice for stuff that I bought from the same auction. It was a different session(4 sessions in all 4 defferent days) but marketed as the same auction. Is this the norm. Second, on one of the invoices was all the RCM items I purchased. Silver coins. They charged me taxes, is this also the norm or am I right that RCM items should not have any sales tax. Edited by TheBurnz 09/01/2017 3:33 pm

Call the auction company and ask what their specific policies are regarding combined invoices and taxes.

They answered back about the shipping cost and said to deduct one of the charges. That was fast and co-operative of them. I don't want to ask about the taxes, before I know it is something that should not have been charged.

It would be helpful to know what auction company you are talking about because different auction companies have different rules.
Is it the Canadian Numismatic Company?

Yes, it is. I just reviewed the invoice. the taxes were not on the items, but on the premiums charged.
I think that's legit.
Thanks for your replies.

Here is the description of taxes from the CNC catalog: "All lots delivered outside Canada are exempt of tax. Sales Tax, if applicable will be added to the total amount of each invoice including the buyer's charge. To all lots delivered in Canada, appropriate GST/HST will be charged". I usually win lots that are paper currency or non-NCLT and GST of 5% is applied to the total order including the buyer's fee and shipping. So if it is a $1000 winning bid, I get charged $150 buyers fee, $20 shipping = $1170. GST of $58.50 is calculated on this total. But If it is pure silver like the RCM coins, there should be no GST on it. It says appropriate GST/HST. However I did not know you get separate invoices for different sessions. That does not seem fair.

there should be no tax, on the purchase price of nclt items, if they are .999 fine silver, currency and sterling silver coins are taxable, there is tax on shipping and handling, but I don't know about the hammer charge..

If you buy RCM items from the USA, customs will stamp it 'not legal tender - collectable item' and charge you taxes/duties ... even though RCM itself does not tax you on these products when you buy from them directly.

When it comes to auctions, tax is always added onto the buyers' premium and never on .9999 silver items.
So be careful when bidding. There are always different bills for each session; however, you can send the whole amount for all sessions via etransfer and usually get a 2 or 3 percent discount depending on which auction house it is.The only one that does not charge the tax on buyers' premium is Colonial Acres. Gotta love them for that:))))
