Howdy all

Has anyone found, sold, or purchased a 1983 D FS-101 cent since they were discovered? GreatCollections had one listed in PCGS 63 RB. No one bid on it and it was relisted the following week. Curiosity killed the cat...I bid on it (sole bidder) and won. It's a strange minor variety and I just don't quite know what to think of it yet?
There just isn't much dramatic news coverage on it and I suppose I feel information starved. Am I the only copper man out here that thought whoa! cool coin then bid the farm? Chuckle.
Seriously, anyone out there have one or any idea if this thing has any hype to it? I seem to fall in love with the weird minor varieties and its an expensive fetish.

Crazybo how are ya? Are you being good?I promise I will not mention the 1966 FS-101 (smile).
Rest in Peace

Still trying to get my foot outta my____! Had a heckuva time finding justbwhat the ___ you're taking about, isn't even noted on coppercoins, did find on VV. I use the pricing on CC to at least figure population so do nt have a clue on this "reverse elf ear" variety...first I knew of this animal. Now let the choir post they want pix!

I really can't bring myself to pay for error coins. I love searching for 'em. I honestly think that the error coin surge is but a brief coin fad pumped up by books telling you how rich you can get by your pocket change...nothing satisfying in life comes easy...momma always said, "easy come, easy go!"

Thanks coop, I searched all the sites except variety vista. Yup sure enough there's others out there. It lists at $125 oops
I bid 10x that. I think I better stick to the 1966 F'S-101's Yites! I promised crazybo I would not mention that variety again.
I'm to technologically challenged to take and load pics but if anyones interested they can go to greatcollections website and look under auction archive. A PCGS MS-64 RD went for $1,500 plus buyers fee a month before the 63 RB I won was posted.
Maybe it's a boondoggle then again I guess time will tell. Looks like a big swollen boxers ear, OMG I'm considering seeking professional help as I am turning into Varuca Salt " I want them all".
Thanks again coop varietyvista provides a wealth of knowledge. I will get my son to help me learn how to post pics, I got a bunch I want to share with the forum.
Crazybo, I was harassing John Wexler about buying his book and asked him about the 92 Close AM's he replied back that another die for the 1992-D has been reported. Maybe we got a shot at finding one of them?
Rest in Peace

Extremely rare! Got one PCGS AU-58. They almost never come up at any price. You're lucky to have found one.

More rare than 70-s..69-s..or a 72 die 4. Those do come up with more frequently...seems counterintuitive but yes.

Absoloutley scarce, there are a couple of us on the forum who are Batty (howdy Bats) over this doubled ear variety. The coin is poohpooed by most collectors but having an FS listing does bring some interest by registry set folks. I am very fortunate to own 2 of these, tried selling my PCGS MS RB on ebay but no interest in it so pulled it from listing. This variety rarely shows up anywhere but like many other modern scarce varieties may or may not ever create higher interest. Its like the 1966 FS-101 you love em or don't. Hang on to your AU example might be awhile before you could locate another. Glad there's 3 of us now who dig these. Bats show us pics. again of that MS RED...its incredible.

Wexler's example WDDO-002 is much nicer.

Don't know why Wexler refers it to -002. I'm just glad to have one. One of my most hardest cents to acquire...and that's for true.

The lack of interest is probably due the the extreme rarity...most collectors aren't even aware of it. We are&

Good luck finding a 66 die 1. That's equivalent to finding an 88 double ear or the 82 reverse I mentioned. Holy trail stuff! Godspeed
