Hello, I came across this coin in my recent blind purchase. 1935 plain that has crazy looking lettering + I think DDO. Any insight to this coin wdould be appreciated.

to the forum!

Had to do a double take on this one. Reference here:

https://coppercoins.com/lincoln/die...ie_state=eds

What you have is MD that mimics this DD in direction of movement only. The letters are damaged along the bottom, took a glancing blow even movit the last T into a pileup. Its not a doubled die for these reasons. The devices(letters) are reduced from a normal size, this shows die "movement" not die "production". Not also the E of WE has no effect on upright or lower bar.

I think I understand, thank you greatly. So is this coin more a common problem or a little uncommon?
Thank you for sending the link, I am obviously a novice at this. But, I love the hobby for sure.
Rest in Peace

MD is a very common occurrence on coins it happens during the strike, like pounding a nail, the hammer bounces, so do dies, a/slight rotational bounce causes this. A doubled die is made in the hubbing process of die formation, that is why the same coin can be replicated time and time uagain, until that die wears out and is replaced with another. The damage on the reverse could be caused by a coin counter, coin roll wrapper or by a coin vending machine. I'm leaning more towards a vending machine damage issue. (old gumball machines used back then)

Well the term 'Family" means more to us. As a family we help our coin brothers and sisters because we care. So welcome to the Family.
