Found my first reverse of 1968 in my first batch of dime rolls I've ever looked at! I don't know much about these, how much would this be worth?

The CPG doesn't mention a premium for this one. Just the information:

Probably not much of a premium for circulated examples.

My question would be why were there so many 1968 reverse dies made that the Mint was able to use them for the next few years?

I'm not sure that there is any way to find out how many dies were made. Maybe the obverse dies wore out more quickly for some reason. Maybe it was a typo in the order. Maybe the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing.

The good thing about this is that the old dies were used and not simply discarded.

Great stuff, I had no idea that I should have been looking for this transitional error.

It's a variety, not an error.

Even if they aren't valuable, it is fun to search for them and even more fun to find them! Good luck.

Thanks for the correction. I had variety typed first and thought I had it wrong. Now I know for sure :)

Mark1959 , these are called reverse of 1968 because that is the the year this design was first used, not because they were all made that year. This design was intended for proof coinage in 68,69 and 70 but some proof dies were used in 69 and 70 for business strikes.

But in circulated condition, it is a matter of finding the right buyer. The price drops drastically when they are not a BU coin.
