The mint has just released a 50 cent triangle coin to commemorate dairy tokens; it is listed on their site. What are your thoughts on this coin? I think it is a strange idea for a coin, though it is quite unique... Is the mint getting tired of circular coinage? First the $3 square beaver, and now this? I think they are dropping hints of things to come, lol... Though I don't think this coin will generate as much interest as the $3 square beaver.

I doubt they'll make circulating "odd shaped" coins anytime soon but if this one does fairly well, expect a few more like it. Imgaine the first trapazoid coin? hah

Here's the "coin" in question:

50-Cent-Triangle-Coin

I'm not sure I actually consider this a "coin", but each collector to his own.
Personally, I think the RCM has gone a bit far with this one--I can only imagine the expense of tooling a special die/collar for just one issue of unproven collector interest

On another note, what is this one exactly about? Cows, milk, or the shape of one type of milk token? One Canadian here thought it resembled a guitar pick (again!)

Couldnt they make one that was brownish, so there could be some chocolate milk?
On a serious side when I saw this coin I was pretty disinterested.

Speaking of guitar picks, there is a guy in the states that will actually take your silver quarters and turn them into picks. I have seen a few of the 1967 Cougar quarters that he has done and they look really neat. I don't recall the name of the guy that makes them but I could dig it up if someone was interested.

The RCM is selling those things for $50?

That's a lot of milk.

As for the shape itself, that's not all that unusual, from a world-wide perspective. Bermuda, for instance, has been issuing "Bermuda Triangles" for a decade or so now.

Wait wait, what about a set of colourized coins in the shape of a pig, dog, cow, or chicken. Maybe, the colourized egg coin can be inserted into the colourized chicken coin. We cant forget the shotgun with a movable slide either...

What I did learn is that the reverse design which is covered in green translucent enamel-effect gooey substance is apparently inspired by an actual milk delivery token shape that once circulated in Canada.
