I almost overlooked him in a bag of estate jewelry because it is almost half the thickness of a normal dime. Originally once it was handed to me, I realized it isn't rusted or painted or either just a strange coloration and smaller. I am not really sure if it is just worn or what the deal with the coloring is. I guess my question is whether is I am just seeing unusual wear on this coin or some contact with something unusual? coop Bedrock of the Community United States 62064 Posts	Posted 09/08/2017 1:08 pm The coin was dipped into acid. That reduced the surface evenly. Note the weaken rim? A real clue that it was dipped into acid. Why is the rim affected more? The acid works on three sides of the coin. Obv/rev/edge all at the same time, thus it reduces the rim quickest.
