I have read and heard such things, but I do not know what the truth is.

So my question is, will the RCM mint coins if commissioned? That is, will they mint a coin of someone's design if that someone pays them?

I am not talking about medals and tokens, which I know they will make if paid, but Canadian NCLT that says "Canada" and has a denomination and the queen with her usual titles and so forth?

All the big coins series were commissioned by Canadian Coin and as such you pay for upfront cost of dies and other fees you are entitle up to half the mintage. The same with those swimming, smiling beaver coins that were big duds

So, can anyone do this, and can that person select any design they want, or do you need some "pull" with the RCM? I am assuming that there are guidelines as to what is an acceptable design, obviously not something that violates other laws.

I find this remarkable.
Rest in Peace

With the number of coins minted already, I'm thinking Canada uses any idea to make new types. Including for profit.

Certainly, silver maple leaf bullion coins can be commissioned with privy marks.

Some years ago I was in touch with someone from the mint. He told me that nearly everybody can order NCLT coins, but they were proofed by the mint, according to the Royal Canadian Mint Act:

http://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/...html#docCont

Guess, that's the reason why we don't see too much canadian NCLT with foreign gods, african animals, old buildings from around the word etc., as you can see on coins from other mass-minting countries. ok, the 100.000th maple leaf is a bit boring, but (my opinion) better than any motiv with no relation to Canada.
