I just purchased this item. The counterstamp doesn't seem to damage coin and I don't mind it. Thanks for help.

@Justinokay

besides the obvious lack of dirt, what makes you think this was cleaned? I don't see any of those nasty hairlines scratches. Or are you saying that if this had an acetone bath, that constitutes cleaning? And I am not questioning your call on this, I'm only trying to learn what the tell-tale signs you are seeing thanks

My coin may very well have been cleaned, but I can't buy the grade of VG. I've looked at graded examples and I'm thinking that it has at least low VF details. Hopefully a reales expert will weigh in.

VF-20something for this recent ebay purchase is prob. correct for wear level. The central detail is solid... Justin is probably knocking it to technical VG due to the soft rims at 3:00 obv AND 3:00 rev (which, note, is not the same spot on the coin as it is medal alignment). The piece may have a bit of a wave to it or the planchet as produced may be of slightly uneven thickness and/or it caught a slight uneven strike. Whichever of those effects... does catch the eye in a slightly negative way.

As far as cleaning history... it is quite "clean" (no dirt, even light tone), which obviously had some assistance from man. So long as it isn't overly/unevenly bright in hand (and of course no notable hailines), whatever long ago dip, soap and water, nose grease, acetone, etc. that it's seen... it looks market acceptable.

Not a terrible piece. The counterstamp, BTW, is probably negligible. Interesting enough that you can overlook it being "graffiti" (to most people, anyway)... but generic initials like this (unless known to be something particularly collectible) don't typically add any value.

Thanks for feedback, realeswatcher. I like the coin, but I think I could've done a lot better gradewise without much extra cost. Didn't study the market as much as I should've. I paid $51.
