Can you provide some background or history or use of these tokens?

Well they Irishmen that started the parades, back in the day would throw cabbages to the lucky ones in the crowd. Being in NoLa, they adopted the tradition of the throwing of doubloons and beads. I guess it hurt less than getting hit with a cabbage! But they still throw cabbage to the crowds. I started a another thread rather putting them in with the next volume of the Mardi Gras tokens I have to finish taking pic's of. That's about all I know other than St Patty's day Parades are a big deal in (Louisiana)

And Saint Patrick's Day is celebrated by The Irish. Most of whom can get really hacked off with the usage St Pattys Day. The usual diminutive is Pat or Paddy (although, never used in conjunction with 17th March) For older people, particularly in Ireland, Patsy is preferred. But Patty, really?

Quote: I don't even like cabbage Maybe so, but I think that it is still interesting to check out these tokens!
