Coming from someone who knows practically nothing about temple tokens, I would think it is a genuine Mughal coin—either a 1 or 1/2 rupee piece from year AH Alif, to be more exact. And Alif means years 1000, which would be around 1592 in the Gregorian calendar. The closest match for a mint I could find was from the Urdu Zafar Qarin mint.

It appears to be a genuine Mughal rupee coin of Akbar the Great. It should be silver and 11.41 gm in weight. Dimensions should be 21 x 20 mm.
Akbar struck these square rupees, which were called jalalah.
