I've been searching for the subject coin for quite some time, browsing the internet, and looking at unattributed coins. I finally found one, though it really does not have any eye appeal. It does fill a slot until I can acquire something nicer. The coing I graded by standard means at EF45. But under EAC grading standards deductions happen due to factors such as eye appeal, toning , scratches, ETC. I am guessing this coin is somewhere around a VF30, possibly VF35. But the toning is suspect, because I think at one time it might have been cleaned. Hopefully someone here has enough experience to help me out with their opinion on both grading standard and EAC, and also let me know if my guess at unnatural toning and possible cleaning is correct. I am attaching the obverse and reverse photos which I hope are clear enough to make any determinations. This is not a scudzy coin, but looks to be maybe just south of average.

I would EAC grade your coin at VF35 old cleaning.

I agree with TJCoins on this one. The cleaning would likely drop the EAC net grade down to VF25 or 30.

Thanks Everyone, It looks like my estimate of EF45, and cleaning was fairly accurate. Also, my estimate of EAC overall grade was pretty much on at VF30/35. I think VF30 is probably more accurate.
When I get another chance to attend the Long Beach Coin Show, I can ask Tom Reynolds or Doug Bird their opinion. For now I do have this variety for my collection, but do hope a better example will eventually become available. It is only a rarity 2, but seems to be a very elusive rarity 2. My hope is to obtain something in the grade AU53-58 Choice. I much prefer a coin that has outstanding eye appeal.
Anyway, my purchase price was $45, so I believe I got a fairly good deal. From what I can determine, the cost is generally around $75-85 for an EF-45.

N10 is tougher than its R2 scarcity might indicate; my grade 40 sharp net 30 cleaned/dings and scratches, TPG 45 details. Better to get one now and upgrade it later if you are working on an 1852 Newcomb set. Notwithstanding the proof N24, N23 and N21 are the two varieties which are tough to find in any condition, especially VF and above.

Near EF-40 sharpness, but the surfaces are dark and crusty. I think the EAC net grade would be around Fine-15. For the "normal graders" it would be priced as a lower end VF.

parlyze, thanks. This coin is just what you said, a filler until I can get something in the Choice AU range. I do not plant on obtaining any proof large cents. But I do have the N21 and N23 already. They were the first two 1852's I obtained. The N21 Is and AU50+, net 50 by Grellman, and is tied for CC7. The N23 is a VF35, net VF20. I prefer choice AU50 or above coins, but some of these have prices in to the stratosphere, so I will just have to be happy with what I can find. Of course, some of these are just plain scarce, even some of the R1's, as they are probably already in collections. Will just have to wait for them to become available.
