As the die is used, the edges of the recesses that form the devices wears down. The lower edges on the die result in corresponding raised edges on the coin. In my opinion it's not MD, it's a worn die.

You're welcome. A nice Doubled Die will have raised doubling almost the same height as the normal devices, and it will be crystal clear. Here's an example.
