Ciao,
I have a doubt about this coin of 2 Rappen 1886. On the obverse it shows some doubling on the date, on the letters and on the leaves, and a very little on the upper-left part of the shield.
What do you think be? Double die of double strike? On the reverse nothing.
Before to send for certification I'd like to be sure, because it happened to have a coin back where the mint error was not recognized because it was a variety (a repunched date). And the certification company just put a sticker on the slab saying: "Variety not mint error". So I had to send it again and pay again another time.
Thanks!

1. The term is Doubled Die.

2. IMO it was doubled during the strike, not a doubled die NOR a double strike.
Something moved slightly when the coin was struck.
Die? Planchet?
Don't know.

Machine doubling is the US term for what you're describing, IIRC.

For the record, I have no idea (it could be either of the three).

Doubled die for sure, but can't say what exactly happened in the mint all those years ago. Nice find though!
Rest in Peace

The die making processes were "similar" to US manufacturing BUT, what appears on the obverse to be a "Rotated Die" Doubling. This happens when the master Working dies are prepared. Multiple "Hubbings" impress portions of the design each time If one is moved slightly, say when adding leaves to the central design imprint, then the date imprint, all or one area may be affected. A very explicit Doubled Die >
