This may be partly attributable to wear and partly to Struck Through Grease? What do you think?

It's Struck Through Grease and wear. Nice find. A keeper in my book.

What is the weight of your coin?
If the weight is normal, then it is a Struck Through Grease issue.
If the coin is light in weight, it might be a different issue.
I feel it is a Struck Through Grease issue, but also wanted to make other away that thin/tapered planchets can also have weak areas/whole designs missing.
Struck Through Grease:

Weight normal, but note strong rims on the coin. A clue for a struck through error.
Tapered planchets:
1942-LWC-Not-Much-Left-On-The-Obverse!
1942-LWC-Not-Much-Left-On-The-Obverse!
Note on tapered planchets the weight will be less than normal and the strike will be weak because of the missing thickness of the planchets. The rim will be weaker almost non existent.
That is how you can tell the differences, weight and weak designs/rims.

Weight is in the ball park figure. So it is a Struck Through Grease fill. Probably in the 80% range. A keeper.
