An interesting story about the Man Who Owned the Mint: http://onlinedigitalpublishing.com/...article.htmlThe site is now essentially open space between two Federal buildings at 7th and Filbert. Their design could have easily accommodated the historic buildings, had they been preserved.

Interesting they allowed the guy to "hang out" in the front of the building! I guess back then there were no worries of what might happen as there is today -

Also that image is from 1854, the Mint moved out of that building in 1832.

Quote: Well you can go hang out in front of the mint today if you want, it's a public sidewalk I don't have the time today to go down there and shoot a pic of my own, so I stole one from Google Earth. Here's what you'll see: Note, if you "hang out" there too long, chances are someone with a gun will start asking you questions. The FBI and IRS are in the building to your left, and the building to the right is the Federal Court. Over your left shoulder (not visible) is the Federal Detention Center. All the bollards you see are the real deal. It's my vote for "street corner in Philly least likely to see a drug deal."

They can't really make you leave. (And I assumed he meant hang out in front of the Mint, not the location where the image was made. Hang out there you might get questioned too but they won't make you leave.)
