Picked this up at my LCS.

What grade will you throw at it?

Thank you as always!

Is there a comprehensive photo resource for grading classic commemoratives online?

I agree with frog, 35 or 40 as a pure guess.

EF-40. The great news is its never been cleaned, which is saying a lot. Nice even circulation, no major distractions, nice slight circulation cameo.

And the 2x2 is icing on the cake.

Very nice selection. This one deserves a congratulations.

Indeed an excellent example. A 40 grade makes sense.

If there is, I can't find it. I try and use images from PCGS's graded coins, but they typically don't go below MS64. I used Heritage's archives as well.

If someone knows of an online photograde for commems, PLEASE post a link.

I think XF 40 is a fair grade. And I really like how this is a 2x2.

I don't think there are special guides for grading commemorative halves somewhere. I do believe they should be graded like other coins...

Agree, but suggest the paying audience for such a book would be very small.

I've been seriously purchasing CSC for about 5 years as of this December. Every type has risen in sold prices, with some minor exceptions.

Values on the grade next to top pop have had the best results. In other words, if the top pop was 67, typically the 66 would be just below the huge jump in price and the best buy.

30 or more years ago a better collection would always include some CSC. Today, many collectors seem to be afraid of them with 50 different type because of the uncertainty for grading.

There are 3 good books on CSC but none of them include grading.

I always use Heritage, with a preference for NGC.

My old ANA grading guide has a very short section on the classic commems identifying the areas on each type that will first show wear, but there is no diagraming like is present for the other coin types.

That sounds similar to what Coinweek has for each of them. Along with a brief history, mintages, etc., the second to last paragraph talks about the areas that show wear first. It's about the best guide I've found so far.

I like this one Beefer .... authentic original surfaces XF40 range. There is something going on with the reverse rim at 3:00 ... but not enough to prevent this from being an honestly circulated example.

Not that I have ever come across. As stated above ... prior auction results as a resource ... but there you are relying upon the grading variability of the various TPG.

It was one of the first things I saw, and held me back from buying it on Thursday.

I think it's a hit from another coin during bagging and transport. Anyone know if these were bagged or rolled? They were distributed at the dedication of the Masonic Temple, and then sold through banks. I don't see any info on a display card or similar.

It's a "railroad track" - hit was from the edge of another coin, possibly during circulation.

It's not enough to detail it.

Late to the game. I believe this coin to be a nice XF-45.
