USCG is most definitely not--I repeat NOT--a reputable coin grading company. Neither is SGS.

Hey. I purchased a coin from abon for $600. Ended up being counterfeit. Wouldnt accept a return, so I never sent it back and left neg feedback. He left me neg feedback saying I tried to switch coins. Filed a claim with paypal, and waiting for the results.
That summarizes my entire experience with Abon.

Carpenter, welcome to the forum. You will learn a lot from the folks here, so kick off your shoes and relax. If you are in fact just starting to collect, and you want to buy some coins to start building your collection, I would suggest a few things to you: 1. For now, if you MUST buy, buy only from the top tier TPG's. These include PCGS, NGC, ANACS, and ICG. There are a lot of companies out that that try to play on the top tiers letters. Just be careful. See if there's a local dealer in your area and buy a few cheap coins from them after asking what grade they assign to it. You can then post here and see what we think. This will help you determine if this is someone you want to deal with in the future. I'm not insinuating every dealer is bad, but it's better to start small to find out.... 2. Education is key, and on this forum you will learn a lot. Be patient. Buy all you want, just ask questions if you're EVER uncertain. Copy and paste pictures here for advice. 3. Enjoy yourself. Find a series you enjoy and start learning. Or, you can be like me and collect everything that is round. That is why I rely on my fellow CCF members for help. Everyone makes mistakes or bad buys. Don't be afraid, just be careful. It will happen, and you just have to hope it doesn't happen with an expensive coin.

In my personal opinion - NO, absolutely NOT! I would only recommend purchasing a slabbed coin if it was in a PCGS or NGC holder (perhaps, also ANACS). They are what is referred to as a Top Tier Grading Company, and their opinion and grade is usually very well respected world wide with good re-sale value. Some people list ANACS as one of the Top Tier Grading Companies, personally I don't, I tend to think of them as slightly below PCGS and NGC, however they also have an extremely good reputation. If you are not confident about grading a coin for yourself, then a coin in a PCGS, NGC or ANACS slab would be a fairly safe bet. Always, always, always be wary of people who slab their own coins to sell on ebay!.!.!

I agree with what is being said above, if you can grade pretty good by pictures then there are some deals to be had in these bottom feeder slabs but most of the time they are preying on the uneducated and new collectors and they have people paying way to much for the coin because they slapped a higher grade on the plastic and the newer collector thinks if its encapsulated then it has to be graded correctly and that just isn't so. Most of these "bottom feeders" are coin dealers that slab their own inventory and put a high grade on them to try and catch someone off guard and over pay for the coin

When purchasing slabbed coins,I buy only PCGS,NGC,ANACS & sometimes ICG and in that order for favorites. You can get some deals on other slabbed coins but ONLY if you know what your really looking at.It's just not worth the chance to me. Just a little advice, When buying coins on ebay ALWAYS check the sellers feedback. They might have what looks to be a high positive feedback 98% 0r 99.5% but when you check their negitives its also high.I stay away from these sellers.

Along with the 4 grading companies mentioned I would also buy PCI graded coins. When buying from ebay I would always suggest paying by credit card. Pay Pal says your protected but I had one problem and they just gave me the run arround, one call to my credit card company and the charges were taken off. I had e-mailed the company 6 times and called 3 times with no response, took my money back and they called me.
